Unit History

1st Battalion, 34th Armor Regiment Lineage

 

  • Constituted 28 August 1941 in the Regular Army as Company A, 34th Armored Regiment, an element of the 5th Armored Division
  • Activated 1 October 1941 at Fort Knox, Kentucky
  • Reorganized and redesignated 20 September 1943 as Company A, 772d Tank Battalion (772d Tank Battalion concurrently relieved from assignment to the 5th Armored Division)
  • Inactivated 14 November 1945 at Camp Shelby, Mississippi
  • Redesignated 16 January 1947 as Company A, 306th Tank Battalion (306th Tank Battalion concurrently withdrawn from the Regular Army and allotted to the Organized Reserves)
  • Activated 25 June 1947 at Seattle, Washington
  • (Organized Reserves redesignated 25 March 1948 as the Organized Reserve Corps)
  • Reorganized and redesignated 2 May 1949 as Company A, 306th Heavy Tank Battalion
  • Inactivated 15 September 1950 at Seattle, Washington
  • Disbanded 20 February 1952
  • Reconstituted 27 March 1957 in the Regular Army as Company A, 34th Armor
  • Redesignated 1 April 1957 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Medium Tank Battalion, 34th Armor, assigned to the 4th Infantry Division, and activated at Fort Lewis, Washington (organic elements concurrently constituted and activated)
  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 October 1963 as the 1st Battalion, 34th Armor
  • Inactivated 14 October 1965 at Fort Lewis, Washington, and relieved from assignment to the 4th Infantry Division
  • Assigned 1 August 1979 to the 1st Infantry Division and activated at Fort Riley, Kansas
  • Inactivated XXXXX at Fort Riley, Kansas
